the essentials in brief
- Martin Bashir is said to have manipulated Michael Jackson and incorrectly cut the documentary.
- He is said to have sneaked the interview with a forged letter from Lady Diana.
- The pop star’s family is considering a lawsuit against the BBC reporter.
Now the Jackson family too! After the royal family, they too blame reporter Martin Bashir (58) for the death of a loved one.
Six years after the controversial interview with Princess Diana († 36), a documentary about Michael Jackson († 50) was broadcast. In it, the “King of Pop” is interviewed by Bashir.
Michael’s nephew Taj Jackson (47) is not satisfied with the film and does not hold back on Twitter with allegations: “Bashir’s manipulated film material and unethical journalism are the main reasons why my uncle is not here today.”
The former BBC reporter manipulated his brother during the interview and then cut it in a misleading way, says Tito Jackson (67). He is also said to have sneaked the conversation – with a fake letter from Lady Diana († 36).
Michael Jackson: “Terrible Notice”
“Bashir used Michael’s trust and friendship with Diana to get the interview,” Tito told the “Mirror”.
Uri Geller (74) introduced Michael Jackson and Martin Bashir to each other. He was unsure whether he should do this, the mentalist told the “Mirror”. Jackson received a letter from Lady Diana († 36) in which she is said to have raved about the interview with Bashir. “That convinced me,” says Geller.
Today he regrets the “terrible announcement”. For Geller, that was the beginning of Jackson’s “downward spiral”.
The allegations could have legal consequences for Bashir: “The family is considering a lawsuit,” knows Matt Fiddes (42), a former bodyguard of the “King of Pop”. Bashir’s portrayal of Michael Jackson is seen as the reason for his retirement.
Recently, Prince William, 38, accused Bashir of being responsible for his mother’s death. The former BBC reporter denies allegations that he never intended to harm Princess Diana.
