Now it finally seems that the Iphone gets what “everyone” wants

The USB-C standard is now applicable to the vast majority of mobile phones, but as is well known, Apple still doubts its proprietary Lightning solution.

Out of consideration for both customer friendliness and the environment, the EU, among others, has pushed for the company to adopt USB-C. Now it may finally seem that Apple is giving in, the website reports Engadget.

Can release Iphone with USB C next year

Sources like the news site Bloomberg has been in contact with, has stated that Apple is now in the process of testing Iphones equipped with just USB-C ports. In that case, the company will apparently soon drop the Lightning standard in favor of the standard already used by Android phones.

The sources are said to have “knowledge of the case” in the usual way, but the information has not yet been officially confirmed by Apple. If Apple introduces USB-C for its mobile phones, this will not happen until 2023 at the earliest, the sources claim.

The move can be considered logical given that Apple has already embraced the USB-C standard on both the iPad and Mac. At the same time, the news, if it turns out to be true, is somewhat surprising considering that Apple has previously sat on its hind legs when it comes to expanding the standard of its mobiles.

“We believe regulation that enforces compliance on the connector built into all mobile phones, inhibits innovation instead of encouraging it, and it will harm consumers in Europe and the economy as a whole,” Apple said in a January 2020 comment. reproduced by among others Reuters.

That comment came as a response to The EU’s long-standing insistence on making USB-C a common charging standard for both mobile phones and more or less all other types of electronic consumer products.

May soon become law

According to Bloomberg’s sources, however, EU pressure is an important reason why Apple is now working to introduce the standard on its mobile phones.

The EU has recently taken new steps towards making the transition to USB-C the current law. In a press release As the European Parliament released in April, it is stated that the bill has been approved by the Committee on the EU Internal Market and Consumer Protection, and the next step now is talks with the EU governments to formulate the final proposal.

– Mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, handheld video game consoles and wired portable speakers will need to be equipped with a USB-C port, regardless of manufacturer. Exceptions are only made for devices that are too small to have a USB C port, such as smartwatches, training watches and some types of sports equipment, the EU press release states.

A transition to USB-C will undoubtedly make life easier for many consumers. As Digi.no reportedsome have even taken matters into their own hands by making a specially designed Iphone with USB-C, which later was sold for the neat sum of 700,000 kroner.
