Now FdI is focusing on animals. La Russa: “It’s time to say yes to cats and dogs in the Senate”

ROME – Here are the lions! Ignazio La Russa at the convention of Melonian parliamentarians in Brucoli he said that “the time has come to authorize senators to bring their pets into the Senate”. Except to add, “with due concern.” And that note hides the fear of a possible drift, always lurking in the affairs of us Italians.

What can I say? It’s that news that makes social media happy.

The president of the Senate does not intend to authorize them inside the chamber. Not at the buffet. Not in commissions. Not yet, at the moment. But the proposal, which is being worked on, concerns the personal offices of senators. It is not the first time that La Russa has declared himself in favor. “Dogs, cats, birds, why not even goats, but there are already so many animals, one plus one less”, he said a year ago, comparing Parliament more or less to a zoo. Even there, however, he added: “It’s a joke, eh!”.

Pets in the Senate, La Russa: “I’m in favor, but I leave my dogs at home”

The most passionate about the issue are two former Forza Italia parliamentarians, Maria Vittoria Brambilla e Micaela Biancofiorehistoric animal rights activists, who have long been fighting for the entry of animals into the Palace, a request now entrusted to the acrimony of the police commissioners. La Russa also has two dogs, but swears she will leave them at home.

Furthermore, there is already a precedent. Last June Biancofiore brought Puggy, an eleven-year-old pug, to his senatorial office in Palazzo Carpegna. Puggy is famous for growing up cuddled by Silvio Berlusconi. He has always been at the senator’s side. The writer also had the honor of interviewing her with Puggy at her side, and can testify that she is a very sociable dog. «Many public administrations, public and private companies, are opening up to this now scientifically proven benefit», motivates his battle Biancofiore, who today presides over the group of Civici d’Italia, Noi moderato and Maie. “We cannot help but accept animals crossing the threshold of our offices.”

Ironies flare up. «Here are the reforms we have been waiting for!» he commented Carlo Calenda. La Russa also replied: “The government makes those.” A year ago the Northern League deputy Laura Ravetto she didn’t hide her reservations about the news: “I find it really curious (euphemism) that we are here discussing letting dogs and cats into Parliament and as a mother I can’t let my five-year-old daughter in if by chance the babysitter is sick.”

Now we all love our dogs, and our cats, and even rabbits, long live animals of course, but does introducing them into Parliament offices represent a sign of new socialization or the beginning of degradation? Let the reader judge. The important thing is that it doesn’t end up like the time of Caligula, who intended to promote his horse as consul. Puggy senator maybe not.
