Now available on Amazon Prime Video: A tough FSK-18 board & the latest film from Johnny Depp – Cinema News

As is tradition, a particularly large amount of new content landed on Amazon Prime Video at the beginning of the month – including a nightmarish 18+ series for the die-hards and a historical film with “Pirates of the Caribbean” star Johnny Depp.

When a new month begins, it usually means for streaming subscribers: lots of new content on Netflix and Co.! Amazon also stepped up its game at the start of August – and added many new (and old) films and series to its program.

We have already reported on Peter Jackson’s “Hobbit” trilogy and a serial killer thriller, among other things. And today we are also briefly presenting you two new Prime Video releases – which have been available since August 1st and could hardly be more different.

“Bliss”: Bloody horror excess

Do you have a penchant for hard-hitting, unbridled genre fare that takes no prisoners – and that sometimes makes you feel like you need a shower as soon as possible? Then you should put “Bliss – Trip to Hell” on your watchlist now. Because the title really says it all.

Joe Begos has established his own style in recent years with films such as “VFW – Veterans Of Foreign Wars”, “The Mind’s Eye” and “Christmas Bloody Christmas” – but in “Bliss” he takes it to the extreme in a unique way.

Noise, sex, drugs and lots of blood culminate in a genre cocktail that is in every respect sprawling and difficult to digestwhich sends its audience into a deep frenzy from which they first have to recover. Anyone who has a weakness for extreme and experimental cinema will gladly put up with the hangover. Our author Sidney Schering definitely recommends this insider tip.

“Jeanne du Barry”: Johnny Depp’s Movie Comeback!

Due to the public war of roses with his ex Amber Heard, Johnny Depp disappeared from the scene for some time – or at least from the big screen. He celebrated his comeback in 2023 with “Jeanne du Barry – The King’s Favorite”.

The costume epic by Maïwenn, who is known not only to “High Tension” fans primarily as an actress, does not work quite as well as when things get a little more dramatic. But as FILMSTARTS chief critic Christoph Petersen summarizes in our 3-star review, The film is “fun whenever Johnny Depp and Maïwenn have mischievous fun as king and courtesan, ignoring the strict and ridiculous rules of etiquette at court.” Fans of Johnny Depp and opulent historical cinema in particular should definitely take a look.
