Berlin, 05.09.2024. Culture and sport: Where are there similarities, where are differences? Where will there be more cooperation in the future? These questions were addressed on August 30, 2024, as part of the “JaAberUnd” series, the debate platform of Politics & Culturethe newspaper of the German Cultural Council.
The discussion of the following questions was somewhat controversial:
- What expectations do major sporting and cultural events raise – and which ones can they fulfill?
- What lessons can be learned from combining sporting events with cultural programmes – such as EURO 2024 and the Olympics?
- In which areas can culture and sport have a social impact? What conditions are necessary for this?
- Do we need a joint Ministry for Culture and Sport?
Discussed were:
- Torsten Burmester, Chairman of the Board of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB)
- Monika Grütters MdB, Former Minister of State for Culture
- Robin Passon, Journalist
- Olaf Zimmermann, Managing Director of the German Cultural Council, Editor of Politics & Culture
