The State Department has also issued travel warnings for the United States and Turkey on Saturday night due to the coronavirus epidemic. “I feel compelled to issue a travel warning for two other countries – the United States and Turkey,” said Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg.
“In addition to the increasing number of people who test positive every hour, other parameters such as increasing insecurity in supply, a lack of medical capacity or curfews have prompted us to make this decision.” It is the first time that Austria has issued a travel warning for both the USA and Turkey.
–
The State Department “strongly” advises Austrian travelers who are still in the USA to leave the country. “Take advantage of the commercial flights to Europe that are still in existence,” Schallenberg appealed to those willing to return. For example, Lufthansa, United, Swiss, Delta and KLM still fly to various destinations in Europe, such as Frankfurt, Zurich or Amsterdam, from the USA. “There is a hurry, because nobody can estimate how long these travel options will remain,” said Schallenberg.
–
As it is no longer possible to leave Turkey on commercial flights, the Foreign Office calls on Austrian travelers who want to go back home to contact the embassy in Ankara or the consulate general in Istanbul.
–
The State Department has now issued a travel warning for 26 countries due to the corona virus. “I cannot rule out that we will have to issue further travel warnings in the next few days and weeks,” said Schallenberg.
