Novo Nordisk will launch the operation “In sneakers against diabetes”, on Saturday 19 November in Chartres

Today is World Diabetes Day! In solidarity with people with diabetes, the Danish pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, founded in Chartres since 1961 and specialized in the treatment of diabetes, is organizing a new day of events and diabetes awareness on Saturday 19 November with the operation “In sneakers against diabetes”. A free and supportive event, with two walks in the morning, a child-parent relay in the afternoon and two running races in the evening.

Under the sign of solidarity

This day has been “at least fifteen years” according to the company.

“It is important for us to talk about this disease that everyone knows about, but which in the end is little talked about and about which the majority of people know very little. »

Arnaud Dudermel (Director of External Relations at Novo Nordisk Headquarters)

Place des Épars, a health village will be set up throughout the day. It will consist of several stands for associations, aimed at making the disease known, providing information on its manifestations and treatments.

Nurses will be present to perform blood glucose screening tests, a dietician will offer workshops to learn and be successful in healthy eating, sports activities will be organised. Of course, the offices for collecting the bib number or for registering for the walking and running circuits remain open.

The money raised will be donated to associations

“In the morning, the participants in the anti-diabetes march will leave at 10.30am, on the Place des Épars, on a 4km circuit to the Novo Nordisk site, or on a 7km loop, returning to the place des Épars this The circuit, although more or less similar to that of previous years, is new.

Arnaud Dudermel explains: “It’s the same route for the foot races, scheduled in the evening. Only the shortest run is a 7km loop and the second is 14km. That is to say that the participants in the latter go around the Place des Épars-site de Novo Nordisk twice. »

In the afternoon, the little ones and their parents will also have a challenge to take up: a child-parent relay which will take place from the Place des Épars to the Place Châtelet. “It’s great, because everyone can participate, regardless of age, whether you’re athletic or not. »

“We are committed to donating 1 euro for each kilometer travelled, per person, to the associations Espace Diabetes 28, Acadia and Union Sport et Diabetes (Usd). »

Arnaud Dudermel (Director of External Relations at Novo Nordisk Headquarters)

About 11,000 euros were raised last year. “We hope to do as we did last year, to help these wonderful associations and patients. »
The company was founded in 1923, following the discovery of insulin in 1921. “Since then we have never stopped highlighting this disease and those who suffer it on a daily basis. »

Espace Diabète 28 gives advice

For the Espace Diabète 28 association, this Saturday “Everyone in sneakers against diabetes” is important. “This is an opportunity to reach as many people as possible. Diabetes is a disease you have but don’t feel, yet it can be fatal. It is mandatory to get tested to become aware of it and few people do it. Saturday will be the occasion, ”says Roselyne Cambour, nurse of the association.

It is also an opportunity to fight widespread ideas about diabetes and to inform.

“It’s not just a genetic disease. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease, so there’s no prevention, but for type 2 diabetes, consider getting tested if you’re overweight or sedentary. »

Roseline Cambour (nurse at Espace Diabète 28)

To reduce the risk of being diabetic, there is only one solution: practice regular physical activity and follow a healthy diet. Once a person has diabetes, they stay with it for life. “At that time, the disease gradually progresses. For the pancreas to work longer, you must eat normally, without dieting, but without consuming too much, and walk regularly”, advises the nurse of Espace Diabète 28.

Walking is beneficial for everyone’s health, at all ages, analyze the doctors of Chartres
