November weather: the first arctic cold surprises, here’s when it will arrive

First taste of winter coming soon

October is reserving returns of heat alternating with bad weatherbut they are typical weather scenarios of the period. There is no longer the cold that we had at times in the month of September and to which we were no longer accustomed, with an abrupt interruption to the summer which already occurred at the end of the first ten days of September.

Ora we are about to experience a new wave of adverse weather which will probably leave a heavy mark, in an Autumn that is taking its course this time. Unfortunately, with every disturbance we have to fear the worst, in terms of violent phenomena that can degenerate into storms and flash floods.

A Mediterranean cyclone it will hit the South in particular over the weekendwith an almost blocked situation which risks leading to a worsening of the phenomena in the same areas. Calabria and Sicily are particularly exposed, risking heavy rainfall after a long drought.

Autumn proceeds in the way we know it, but many wonder what winter awaits us. It’s difficult to say, although broad hypotheses can be made. It cannot be denied that October, after September, also stands out for its exasperated dynamism and the anticyclone did not have the opportunity to settle in for long.

Towards the first cold temperatures already at the beginning of November

We did not have a late extension of the Summer, as we had often seen in recent years. There were only brief and limited returns of heat, mainly over southern Italy. Now a great Ottobrata seemed to be waiting for us, but then there was an about-face of this possible scenario.

The swing will continue in the third decade of October between anticyclone and fast unstable impulses, waiting for the first cold weather which may not take too long. Surprises are approaching. The dynamism seems to be a positive sign, but it is worth highlighting that a freezing winter is not expected.

Long-term projections point to one first probable cold descent from the Arctic latitudes coinciding with the start of the new montharound the period of All Saints. This could be the first taste of winter with the arrival of snow in the mountains up to medium altitudes.

November could bring further phases of winter coldwell ahead of the season. Everything will depend on the progress of the next few weeks but this year we could experience important early winter dynamics, if the Polar Vortex maintains a certain weakness. We’ll see.
