Innovation prize awarded for ethical further training
The Karl Schlecht Foundation and the Church State Working Group for Adult Education in Baden-Württemberg (KiLAG) awarded the “Innovation Prize for Ethical Further Education” at their annual meeting on November 29th. The award for groundbreaking educational work in the churches of Baden-Württemberg is intended to highlight special event formats and encourage imitation. In addition, the new education portal (www.bildung-kirchen.de) of KiLAG activated. There is an overview of all church educational offerings in Baden-Württemberg.
The Evangelisches Kreisbildungswerk Stuttgart was awarded first prize (4,500 euros) for the offer “Simply know – learn new things in easy-to-understand language”. This series of events deliberately focuses on groups “who are unfortunately often not yet the focus of open adult education,” said Dr. Sebastian Friese, who, as chairman of KiLAG and board member of the diocesan working group for adult education in the Archdiocese of Freiburg, gave the laudation for the award winners. “Simply Know” presents topics from science, politics and society in simple language and creates spaces for people with and without disabilities to meet. The offer is also intended to help change society’s view of people with disabilities. “A great project that represents a building block towards an inclusive society. With ‘Simply Know’ we are honoring a project today that shows that and how inclusive adult education is possible,” says Friese.
The second prize, endowed with 2,000 euros, went to the Catholic Adult Education District of Ludwigsburg eV for its event format “Ethics in Dialogue.” The series of events is now in its fifth year enabling dialogue on relevant topics. “Social issues are addressed here that are burning but also difficult: democracy, migration, prostitution, organ donation,” says Sebastian Friese. A highlight is the hybrid event “Threatened Democracy. “Young mayors show their edge”. In November 2022, seven mayors from all over Germany discussed on the podium, two of them connected digitally. “Thank you very much for the initiative, and I think this is also an indication of how political education can be successful today, namely political education as an event,” emphasized Friese.
The third prize, worth 1,000 euros, went to the Evangelical Adult Education Emmendingen/Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald. In their event series “Badisch Bullerbü? – Experience Agriculture in Change” Since October 2022, consumers have been able to experience the work and changes on farms once a month by visiting farms in the region. “Life in the country and especially life as a farmer has changed radically. Because the structural change in agriculture is massive. This particularly affects rural regions in Baden-Württemberg,” stated Sebastian Friese in his laudatory speech. This offer of Protestant adult education has “excellently succeeded in tackling this difficult topic and making it tangible”.
New education portal www.bildung-kirchen.de
The new online platform was also presented as part of the award ceremony www.bildung-kirchen.de unlocked. The entire colorful spectrum of church adult education is summarized on this church education portal. Interested parties can now search specifically for locations, formats, topics, target groups, prices or providers and thus discover the right educational event for themselves. The state of Baden-Württemberg co-financed the creation of the education portal through comprehensive funding as part of the WEITER.mit.BILDUNG@BW continuing education offensive.
Church adult education in Baden-Württemberg ensures a comprehensive offering. With the help of 98 full-time managed institutions with volunteer-led working groups/volunteer contact persons in the parishes of the five participating churches – the Archdiocese of Freiburg, the Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart, the Evangelical Regional Churches in Württemberg and Baden and the Evangelical Methodist Church – it achieves this almost 60,000 events 1.2 million participants in Baden-Württemberg, even in the smallest villages and communities.
