One day after Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ head-on clash with Antonis Samaras, where the latter spoke of dangerous policies regarding “calm waters” and of “bowing” in Greek-Turkish, the Messinian politician’s basic request for the removal of the protection regime was implemented of protected witnesses in the Novartis scandal.

Specifically, the financial prosecution decided to withdraw the protection for the witnesses with the code names “Aikaterini Kelesi” and “Maximos Sarafis”, as a result of which serious issues are raised, as it is a legally binding decision. It is essentially a decision that negates the will of the Supreme Court for the witness protection regime linked to the public interest.

The decision is taken in a political situation where the war between the prime minister and Antonis Samaras has reached borderline proportions, with many worried within the blue KO, that there is a danger even for the government’s cohesion.
Specifically, at yesterday’s plenary session of the Parliament, the prime minister left the room, when the president of the KO of SYRIZA, Nikos Pappas, rose to the podium to speak. In fact, in his appeal he said “I do not recognize as a representative of the official opposition a politician convicted by 13-0 in the special court. I protect the state, I will not be greeted, I will be pleased and negotiate with him”, leaving spikes for the greeting of Antonis Samaras with Nikos Pappas on October 14, where they were both, like dozens of other politicians, at an event of the Athens Chamber of Commerce.
Tough answer from Samara circles
Circles of the former prime minister and former president of the ND reported after the actions of Kyriakos Mitsotakis that “it is obvious that Mr. Mitsotakis is attacking Mr. Samaras not because he greeted the official opposition leader who happened to be sitting next to him at a public event… After all, Mr. Samaras’ statement about the Novartis scandal, that he will take all those responsible “to the end”, is fully valid”.
As it was mentioned, “the real reason lies in the “calm waters” with Turkey, which are disturbed every day now, through successive provocations. Like this one just now, with Turkey’s new Navtex. Who informed us that not only Kasos but neither Lesvos nor Chios have a continental shelf! So let’s deal with the serious stuff, at our borders. No more really dangerous charades, short-lived “friendship pacts” and bows.”
After today’s developments and the decision to withdraw the protection of the two protected witnesses for the Novartis scandal, the Messinian politician stated that “the decision of the Court is particularly important. Because the way is now wide open for the full and official disclosure of the Novartis plot. The causes and protagonists of this misery will be revealed. I am very happy about this development. The moment of truth is coming. Until the end. For everything – and for everyone”.
