Novak Djokovic’s Return to American Concrete: Winning Streak and Future Goals

“I’m excited and I’m enjoying being able to freely choose where I want to play again,” said Djokovic. The fans are expecting his return to the American concrete, the 36-year-old tennis players were already watching full stands on Sunday. He won the Western & Southern Open in 2018 and also in 2020, when it was played in New York before the US Open during the coronavirus pandemic.

Djokovic will appear in America for the first time since his final defeat at the New York Grand Slam against Russian Daniil Medvedev the year before last. He played his last match a month ago in another unsuccessful Grand Slam final, losing to Spaniard Carlos Acaraz at Wimbledon. He missed Toronto last week, explaining that he still felt tired.

“I deliberately chose Cincinnati to prepare well for New York. After twenty years on the tour, it’s fascinating that you still feel that inner fire that drives you to big goals,” said Djokovic. “If I were no longer motivated, I would quit. But I want to keep winning tournaments,” assured the holder of a record 23 Grand Slam titles and winner of 94 ATP tournaments.

He signed up for the doubles in Cincinnati with compatriot Nikola Čačič. The name of the first opponent for the singles competition will not be known until today, in the opening round he has a free draw as the world number two.
