Novak Djokovic’s Mysterious “Patch” and “Magic Potion”: The Secrets Behind His Wimbledon Performance

After the great brilliance of Serbian Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, and his arrival to the semi-finals, one of the things that most attracted the attention of his followers, in addition to his ingenuity, was the “patch” that appeared on his chest.

On Tuesday evening, Novak Djokovic defeated Russian Andrei Rublev and reached the semi-finals of Wimbledon, in an enthusiastic match that filled tennis fans around the world.

And as Djokovic used to draw attention with his distinctive style of play, he became the talk of social media thanks to a device made up of a circular piece of metal affixed to his chest with a white patch.

What is this device?

The same device appeared on Djokovic during the French Open earlier this year, and the cameras then focused on it, prompting former tennis player Jim Courier to joke, saying: “Maybe Novak is Iron Man (a character from science fiction films).”

Fans immediately joined in on the comparison, and the links with the Iron Man were on display again at Wimbledon, when Djokovic changed his jersey during their round of 16 match against Hubert Hurkacz.

It is noteworthy that when the 36-year-old was asked about the nature of the device at the French Open, he revealed that it is an advanced piece of technology that helps him “perform at his best.”

The 23-time Grand Slam winner added, joking: “As a child I really liked Iron Man, so I try to impersonate him,” before adding: “You should know that my team gives me incredibly effective accurate technology to help me do the best on the field. This is the biggest secret of my career.”

It was later known that the device is “Taopatch”, which is used to treat inflammatory problems that affect the skin, bones and joints, using magnetic fields placed on the area that needs it.

It is reported that this is not the first time that tennis fans have been baffled by the extraordinary methods that Djokovic uses to stay in top shape.

The white bottle

And last year, the veteran was seen inhaling what he called a “magic potion” from a white bottle, between games at Wimbledon.

At the time, the British newspaper “The Telegraph” stated that the “magic potion” is actually a powder that many athletes who take unmixed energy supplements accept.

The powder is usually combined with water, and quickly replenishes carbohydrates when energy levels need to stay high during intense workouts.

It is usual for tennis stars to drink highly nutritious drinks and snacks in the middle of matches, but it is not known why Djokovic consumes the powder alone.
