New York –
Novak Djokovic come out as champion US Open 2023. This was after Djokovic beat the Russian Daniil Medvedev.
In the final match which was held at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Monday (11/9/2023) morning WIB, Djokovic tried to recover from defeat in his last final, namely Wimbledon when he was beaten by Carlos Alcaraz in five sets.
For Djokovic, this meeting with Medvedev was like a repeat of the 2021 US Open final. At that time, Djokovic’s mission to clean up the Grand Slam title failed because Medvedev defeated him.
In the first set, Djokovic quickly took a 3-0 lead after Medvedev couldn’t return an ace. Having lost one point, Djokovic extended the lead to 5-1 before winning the set 6-3 because his opponent’s backhand was out.
Entering the second set, the match became even more exciting because Medvedev got up and was involved in chasing points until the score was tied at 5-5. Djokovic was on the brink of victory in the second set when leading 6-5, before his failure to return Medvedev’s shot made the score 6-6.
During the tie break in the second set, the numbers continued until Medvedev took a 5-4 lead. Djokovic then stole two points to finish the second set 7-5 in 105 minutes!
In the third set, Djokovic only faced resistance at the start when he led 3-2. After that, the 36-year-old easily collected four straight lifts and Medvedev’s forehand into the net gave Djokovic a 6-2 win.
Djokovic is also entitled to the 2023 US Open title, which is his fourth title in this tournament or his first since 2018. This is also Djokovic’s 24th Grand Slam title, equaling Margaret Court’s record.
That means Djokovic only needs one more next year to become the player with the most Grand Slam titles in history. Congratulations, Nole!
