Novak Djokovic reveals: Why he can’t be friends with Nadal and Federer!

Novak Djokovic, one of the biggest names in men’s tennis, has opened up about his relationships with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. The Serb emphasized that due to the intense rivalry on the tennis court, a close friendship with the other two members of the famous “Big Three” was not possible.

These three players defined an era in tennis and are widely regarded as the three greatest players in the history of men’s tennis.

The limits of rivalry

In an interview with BRAND Djokovic explained the nature of his relationship with Nadal and Federer.

“It’s true that we can’t be friends because with friends you talk about everything, the good, the bad, your secrets… With your rivals, I don’t think you feel very comfortable revealing all that.

In the last 15 years I have seen Nadal and Federer more than my parents. This means that they have been a very important part of my life and career. I have incredible respect for them and for the rivalry we have maintained for so long.

It’s been a very long journey together and when we hang up the racket we will look at it in a more relaxed way,” said Djokovic.

Djokovic’s Respect for Nadal and Federer

Last year, Djokovic was part of Federer’s farewell at the Laver Cup.

After so many great duels with Federer, Djokovic took part in the Swiss’s last tournament. Nadal, who is 37, has not played since the Australian Open due to a psoas muscle injury.

He plans to retire from professional tennis next year. Throughout the year, Djokovic was always very respectful when asked about Nadal. Djokovic recently said that he wishes Nadal all the best and that his comeback is going as planned.

Djokovic also expressed the hope of playing Nadal at least once more before his retirement as a 22-time Grand Slam champion. It remains to be seen whether Djokovic can fulfill his wish and meet Nadal at least once in 2024.
