LONDON — Novak Djokovic, who turns 37 next month, became the oldest player to hold the top spot in the ATP rankings.
Roger Federer was the one who held this mark, on his last day at the top of the rankings in June 2018.
With the weekly update of the ATP rankings on Monday, Djokovic has now held the top position for 420 weeks.
The Serbian returned to the top of the rankings in September, after winning the US Open.
Djokovic begins his preparation for the defense of his title at the French Open, which begins on May 26, with the Monte Carlo tournament this week. This will be Djokovic’s first tournament since he and coach Goran Ivanisevic decided to go their separate ways.
On Monday, Montrealer Félix Auger-Aliassime (35th) moved up one place in the rankings and is the highest ranked Canadian. Ontarian Denis Shapovalov lost one position and is in 122nd place.
Jannik Sinner ranks second, ahead of Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev.
Among the women, Laval resident Leylah Annie Fernandez is in 34th place. Canadians Rebecca Marino and Marina Stakusic are 161st and 202nd, respectively.
The top-5 remained intact with, in order, Iga Swiatek at the top, followed by Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, Elena Rybakina and Jessica Pegula.
