Tennis” The world number 1 has been tested positive for the coronavirus. It has placed itself in quarantine.
Novak Djokovic is the fourth participant of the Adria Tower to have a positive test after Grigor Dimitrov, Borna Coric and Viktor Troicki. The Serb had refused to submit to a screening test before leaving Zadar in Croatia, to return to Belgrade, feeling no symptoms.
“We have been tested from the moment we arrived to Belgrade. My test is positive, such as that of Jelena (his wife, ed), but the results of tests performed on our child were found to be negative,” says in a press release the instigator of the exhibition tour in the Balkans. “Everything that we have undertaken during the past month, we have done with the pure heart and noble intentions. Our tournament was supposed to unite and share a message of solidarity across the region,” says the world number 1, recalling that the objective was to raise funds for people in need.
“We have set up this tournament when the pandemic has weakened, thinking that the conditions were met. Unfortunately, the virus is still present, and it is a new reality with which we must all learn to live,” says the Serbian. And to conclude his statement by apologizing: “I am particularly sorry for each case of infection. I hope this does not deteriorate the state of health of person, and that everyone will get over it the better.” ATS
