MONTE CARLO – Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic started the clay court season with a commanding victory in Monte Carlo. The first player of the world ranking, who took a break of almost a month after an unexpectedly quick end in Indian Wells, outclassed Roman Safiullin from Russia 6:1, 6:2 in the second round of the Masters tournament.
German Alexander Zverev also made it to the round of 16 without any problems. The fifth-seeded player eliminated the Austrian Sebastian Ofner in two sets 6:3 and 6:4. Italian Lorenzo Musetti beat Frenchman Arthur Fils 6:3, 7:5.
Australian Alex de Minaur advanced to the 2nd round, the eleventh-seeded player easily defeated Swiss Stan Wawrinka 6:3 and 6:0 in the opening match. Tuesday’s program was interrupted by rain, and the tennis players got to the courts only after a delay of one and a half hours.
