Before Paris Bercy’s ATP Masters tournament, Novak Djokovic says he doesn’t want to be a “tennis monster”.
Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic (ATP 7) started the ATP Masters tournament in Paris-Bercy on Tuesday with a simple two-set win over Maxime Cressy (ATP 34). The Serbian has already won the title six times at this point.
At a press conference ahead of the tournament, a reporter called Djokovic “Tennis Monster”. He replies with a smile: “I don’t know what that word means in your language, but in mine it means nothing good. I’d rather not be the tennis monster. ”The stats against a lot of top players are positive and he’s great, but he’s not a monster, says Djokovic.
He takes the opportunity in the French capital very seriously: “It’s one of the most important tournaments on the tour and I respect it.”
“Thanks for everything Ruggero”
However, the 21-time Grand Slam winner will only focus on the next record after Paris-Bercy, the ATP finals, which will take place in Turin, Italy from 13 November. There he wants to win his sixth title and thus reach the level of previous record winner Roger Federer. “This is one of my biggest goals,” the Joker said.
When asked about the end of his great Swiss rival’s career, Djokovic starts to rave: “Of course he was my opponent on the pitch. But the night of his retirement, the rivalry was overshadowed. Thank you Roger, thank you for all that. you did for this sport. ”The 35-year-old himself, however, is not yet thinking of resigning:“ I don’t know when the time will come. I hope as late as possible ».
Until then, Djokovic certainly has a lot going on. He is very motivated to continue writing history in sport. (bjl)
