Novak Djokovic confirms New York trip and hunts Cincinnati and US Open crowns

The 17-time major champion Novak Djokovic has confirmed the USA trip with Cincinnati and the US Open draw. Both events will take place in New York at the end of the month and Djokovic will aim for top seed titles with no Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer as his main competitors.

Novak worked hard on his game in Marbella, preparing for the trip in a few days and hoping to do his best after such a long break. The Serbian won the title at his last tournament of the season in Dubai in February and will be looking for more at Arthur Ashe Stadium in the coming weeks.

Djokovic has not yet lost a game in 2020 and helped Serbia win the ATP Cup title and the eighth Australian Open crown in order to become number 1 in the world again. Last year Djokovic lost both trophies to Daniil Medvedev and Stan Wawrinka who were anxious to win back at least one and stay in the footsteps of Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

In New York, Wawrinka had an advantage of 6: 4, 7: 5, 2: 1 over Djokovic before the Serb had to retire due to a shoulder injury. Novak was not at his best in the first training session in New York but still managed to win three games before facing a former champion who knows how to play big matches against major rivals and scored his fourth win against Novak at Majors .

In 2019, Novak lost in the semifinals in Cincinnati and was eliminated from the US Open

“I’m happy to confirm that I will be competing in the Western & Southern Open and US Open this year.

It was not an easy decision to face all the obstacles and challenges on many sides, but the prospect of getting back to the competition makes me very excited. During my career, I have played some of my best games at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

I know it will be very different this time with all the protocols and security measures put in place to protect gamers and people in NY. Nevertheless, I trained hard with my team and got my body in shape so that I can adapt to new conditions.

I’ve done all of the research to make sure I’m fully recovered and ready to hit the court again to play my best tennis. I respect and appreciate everyone who takes the time, effort and energy to organize these two events so that tennis players can get back to their field of work.

Unfortunately for the players and the game itself, the current situation does not allow everyone to travel and compete at the same risk and I hope that the situation will soon change and we will all get back to doing what we love and do best .

“said Novak Djokovic.
