Famous tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou has drawn parallels between legendary Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic, former world number one Roger Federer and two football legends like Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Both Djokovic and Federer, along with Spaniard Rafael Nadal, are considered two of the greatest players in the history of men’s singles tennis.
Mouratoglou was recently quoted in a report stating that in his opinion Federer is more comparable to former Barcelona striker Messi because he simply has talent, while Djokovic reminds him of former Real Madrid striker Ronaldo, who known for his intensity and hard work.
“I was talking to a friend yesterday and we said Federer is Messi and Djokovic is Ronaldo,” he said. Why? “Because Federer is the pure, crazy talent and he just has to feel what he’s doing, while Djokovic is the super hard worker who pays attention to every single detail.”
Djokovic is considered the most successful player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category in the Open era, with 24 Grand Slam titles. This year, the Belgrade-born star added to his trophy cabinet as he won the Olympic gold medal for the first time in his career. In the final of the singles competition in Paris he defeated the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in three sets 7:6, 7:6.
On the other hand, Federer retired from the sport in September 2022 after struggling with fitness issues towards the end of his career. He became the first player in the history of men’s tennis in the singles category in the Open era to win more than 15 Grand Slam titles. He also became the first men’s singles player to win a major title 20 or more times during his illustrious career.
