Experience has spoken. Novak Djokovic won in three sets against Ben Shelton (6-3, 6-2, 7-6[7-4]) on the courts of Flushing Meadows in New York, Friday September 8. The Serbian left only a slim hope at the end of the match for the young American revelation, sixteen years younger. The university champion distinguished himself by going for the tie-break before seeing his opponent return with undeniable superiority.
Facing the 47th in the world, the number 2 seed showed that he was used to big nights. It was “Nole’s” 47th Major semi-final, the first for the 20-year-old. Novak Djokovic can therefore win a potential fourth coronation in New York, a 24th Grand Slam title and will play his 36th final of a Major on Sunday.
