Novak Djokovic Achieves 350th Grand Slam Victory, Continues Dominance at Wimbledon

London (AFP)

Serbian Novak Djokovic achieved his 350th victory in the four Grand Slam tournaments, to reach the third round of the Wimbledon Championships, which he holds, and the world number two defeated Australian Jordan Thompson “70” 6-3,7-6,7-5 to reach the third round.
Only Swiss Roger Federer (369) and American Serena Williams (365), who retired last year, have more victories in major tournaments than the Serbian.
Djokovic, who achieved his 41st successive victory on the main court and 30th in a row at Wimbledon, said about the strong confrontation with the Australian, “I don’t know if I wanted to confront him at this early time in the tournament. He was unlucky in the second set. He played a great match and deserves applause.”
Djokovic has not lost on Center Court since the 2013 final, and he has not lost at Wimbledon since falling in the quarter-finals in 2017.
Coming from a third title at Roland Garros that made him the record holder for the number of major championship titles for men (23), Djokovic aspires to more achievements at Wimbledon, as an eighth title will make him a partner in Federer’s record in the English capital.
In the event that this happens, he will raise the fifth cup in a row at Wimbledon, as it has become almost impossible to beat him in recent years, and thus he will equal the number of Australian Margaret Court in the number of major titles in the men’s and women’s singles competitions «24».
Victory at Wimbledon would also leave him just short of the US Open title in September, becoming the first player since 1969 to lift the four Grand Slam trophies in one year.
