Unlike Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal or Dominic Thiem, Novac Djokovic announced that he was taking part in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
“I am very proud to be packing my bags for Tokyo and joining our national team in the fight for the brightest medals on the Olympic arenas”, he wrote on Twitter.
“For me, the game for Serbia has always been a special joy and motivation and I will do my best to make us all happy! “, he added.
Cannot disappoint my little friend Koujirou. I booked my flight for Tokyo and will proudly be joining #TeamSerbia for the Olympics. ???????? pic.twitter.com/23TmSdvc4x

Djokovic, who represents Serbia, seeks to become the first man to reach a “Golden Slam” schedule: winning all four Grand Slam tournaments and the Olympics in one year. Steffi Graf is the only player to have achieved the feat so far, in 1988.
Djokovic has already won the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon this year, so would just need to win the Olympics and the US Open later this summer to do so. At the Olympics, Djokovic won bronze in singles in 2008.
After winning Wimbledon and equaling Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s record for most Grand Slam tournaments won by a male player last weekend, Djokovic said he was “50/50” to go in Tokyo.
Nadal and Federer have both pulled out of Tokyo, along with many other stars including Serena Williams and Dominic Thiem.
