Nottingham Forest Return to Premier League After 23 Years

London

Nottingham Forest get a promotion ticket to Premier League Next season. Forest will return to play in the highest caste of the English league after a 23-year absence.

Forest won the Championship Division playoff final against Huddersfield Town at Wembley Stadium, Sunday (29/5/2022). Forest won 1-0 after Huddersfield defender Levi Colwill had an own goal.

That means Forest will return to the Premier League for the first time since the 1998/1999 season. The span of 23 years until promotion to the Premier League is the longest for a club.

The success of promotion to the Premier League is the pinnacle of Forest’s revival this season. They had sunk at the bottom of the table at the start of the season after only getting one point from the first seven games.

The series of negative results then made Forest decide to sack Chris Hughton in September and appoint Steve Cooper as new manager. Steve Cooper then led Forest to a fourth-placed finish in the Championship, just two points clear of third-placed Huddersfield.

“I’m very proud of the players, staff and fans,” said Forest defender Joe Worrall ESPN.

“We were outstanding all season, we were really unlucky not to get promoted automatically. We played with honesty and we played football right,” he said.
