Nottingham Forest Facing Major Points Penalty in Premier League

The next Premier League club must fear a significant points penalty

Nottingham Forest must fear a major points penalty in the Premier League, various renowned British media reported on Tuesday. The Telegraph, among others, writes that the current number fifteen of England may have suffered more losses than is allowed.

The FA previously decided that Everton had to hand in ten points, which means that the Liverpool club is currently just above the relegation zone. Forest have only collected four more points and now have to seriously fear a heavy punishment.

The Tricky Trees have built up serious deficits over the past three seasons and appear to be over the loss cap. Last season, Forest spent around 200 million euros on incoming transfers, excluding salaries, after promotion to the Premier League. The risks the club took on the transfer market could cause a major problem.

According to The Telegraph, Forest has already hired a top lawyer to challenge a possible points penalty. The club management fears that an actual reduction in points will have a serious impact on the relegation battle.

Forest will be told at the end of January whether sanctions will follow from the Premier League. Any points reduction must still be awarded this season. If Forest receives the same punishment as Everton, the club will drop no less than four places in the rankings. Only Sheffield United has collected one point less.

Because Forest has already hired a top lawyer, people in England think that the figures for the 2022/23 season are indeed abysmal. Due to the many expenses, the current market value of Forest’s selection is currently estimated at around 405 million euros.

For comparison: Transfermarkt currently estimates the current market value of Feyenoord’s selection at around 310 million euros, while PSV and Ajax are valued at 286 and 202 million euros respectively. Last summer, Forest paid 35 million euros to lure Ibrahim Sangaré from PSV. The Ivorian comptroller signed a significant contract worth millions.
