In an interview with TechCrunch, Carl Pei has revealed details about Nothing’s first product – the Ear 1 wireless headphones, which will be introduced on 27 July. The headphones will offer active noise reduction and cost 99 euros.
Pei says that Ear 1 has high build quality and that the transparent construction of the headphones is much more expensive than a traditional design. He believes that the Ear 1 is functionally similar to the AirPods Pro, which Pei points out costs more than twice as much.
Wireless headphones today have very varying prices depending on the model and manufacturer and functionality. Charging 99 euros for a pair of true wireless headphones with noise reduction can be seen as aggressive pricing.
Pei also mentions why Nothing acquired the remnants of Andy Rubin’s short-lived smartphone maker Essential. Before the company called itself “Nothing”, “Essential” was one of the name suggestions. They acquired Essential for the brand’s sake and have no plans to do anything else with Essential.
