Our Lady of Paris Cathedral, which suffered a severe fire in 2019, is finally ready for renovation, the French government agency that oversees the reconstruction has said.
The building was strengthened and cleaned for two years. Negotiations will now begin with companies on renovation work. It is planned to announce about 100 tenders for various works.
The renovation of the cathedral is planned to start in the winter and be completed in 2024.
The project also intends to restore the spire of the cathedral, built in the 19th century, which collapsed as a result of a fire.
1000 oaks have already been felled to restore the peak.
On the evening of April 15, 2019, a fire broke out in the cathedral, which caused extensive damage to the world-famous church.
Firefighters managed to save the basic stone structure of the 850-year-old building, but the flames destroyed the roof and other parts of the cathedral.
The cause of the fire has not yet been fully determined. This may have been caused by a fault in the electrical system or by smoking a dropped cigarette.
