Notice came, teams took action! 5 thousand tons were seized in Hatay

Ships tracked via satellite via the Ship Tracking System were physically tracked after they entered the port area. After the cargo on the ships was transferred to a warehouse in Hatay and a customs declaration was opened regarding the cargo, the teams took action.

A total of 5 thousand tons of rice in the warehouse was sampled and sent to Ankara Food Laboratories under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. In the report from the laboratory, it was stated that the GMO analysis results of the product examined did not comply with the Turkish Food Codex.

While 5 thousand tons of genetically modified rice with a market value of 15 million liras were seized, an investigation was initiated by the Iskenderun Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office for the offenses of opposing the Anti-Smuggling Law No. 5607, the Turkish Penal Code No. 5237 and the Biosecurity Law No. 5977.
