Carl Pei’s name may be familiar to you primarily from the fact that he was one of the founders of OnePlus. He has since left his original company and founded a new one called Nothing, which the other day held an event with the former OnePlus boss in the lead. Pei has made a number of announcements, including confirming previous rumors that they will soon come up with their own smartphone.
According to the founder, Nothing is not just an audio company, as anyone might have thought so far, for good reason, because their current product range consists of just one headset. In the future, however, their goal will be to become Apple’s biggest competitor in the global smartphone market, with products that connect and work seamlessly together, Pei said in a presentation. In essence, they have announced their entry into the smartphone market, which will be nothing more than a device called the Nothing Phone (1), which, although not yet unveiled, has now been announced. And there was no shortage of promises.
Pei promises a unique design and that the mobile will “bring fresh air” into the somewhat boring smartphone world. No features have been shared, but it does know what partners the mobile will be working with, the chipset of which will be provided by Qualcomm, but Samsung, Sony and Visionox will also contribute components to the production.
In the summer, we’ll hear more details about Nothing’s first mobile, signaling roughly when we can expect its arrival. Pei has promised that buying the phone will be a long-term investment, as it is guaranteed to receive three full Android versions and a 4-year security update after its release.
We also got some vague references to the back panel design of the device, which may also have notification lights.
The manufacturer will also create its own custom user interface in addition to Android running on the phone, which will be called Nothing OS. The interface will not only run on the Nothing Phone (1) mobile, but will be available for a few more selected devices sometime in April. They promise smooth and fast operation without bloatware. The interface itself will offer a dot-matrix design, uniform icons, fonts and widgets.
Some software optimizations are part of the interface, including dynamic RAM cache, which will help make the most commonly used applications run even faster. Built-in apps like Voice Recorder will have a minimalist and unique design, and the animations will be subtle and also consistent, the first man in Nothing promised.
Overall, we’ve got a lot of sound promises, little concrete, but since they come from Carl Pei, who is still one of the founders of OnePlus, we can’t take lightly on what has been said, and we need to make Nothing Phone (1) one of the fresh spots this summer. will be.
