After a penalty for the guests in the opening phase of the match, Khya Wilson scored the first try in the fifth minute. Unfortunately, the two extra points were not forthcoming because he missed the conversion. The guests were unlucky again after fifteen minutes. Due to off-side, the try by Daniël Sicoux was disallowed. No 3-10, but a well-aimed penalty by Haagsche (6-5).
Once again Haarlem showed resilience. Again it was Wilson who scored. This time he shot the ball between the posts from a penalty (6-8).
Dying seconds
The deficit threw the home team off their game. On the contrary. They scored their first try in no time. After the successful conversion, the lead was 13-8. As if the misery for Haarlem wasn’t enough, Bram Lutters was shown a yellow card ten minutes before the end. With one more player on the field, Haagsche scored in the dying seconds of the first half, so that Haarlem went to the dressing rooms with a 20-8 deficit.

The game did not improve in the second half. Haagsche kept putting pressure on the defence of their guests and Haarlem was unable to break through the malaise. Denzel Walker tried, took the necessary metres forward, but could not manage to score the much-needed points on his own. Nine minutes before the final whistle it seemed that it would succeed. Haarlem was a few metres from the try line, but a knock-on quickly made the hope of the 30-13 evaporate.
The failed attempt to make the score somewhat bearable, strengthened Haagsche to throw a good final offensive against it. They filled the poisoned chalice and let Haarlem drink it to the last drop, given the two tries they scored.
