On July 1, a filming day for the upcoming feature film “Mother’s Milk” was an important one in an apartment in a multi-storey building in Old Riga. And not only the plot of the film dictated the events of the day – director Ināra Kolmane is very pleased to be on the set and continue working on the long-cherished film on her birthday.

Kalēju Street in Old Riga is closed not only to traffic, but also to pedestrians. Hundreds of valuable books are thrown out of the window on the sixth floor – visually undeniably impressive. The head of a blond haired girl appears in the window – today she is the main character of the film “Mother’s Milk” Astra, Nora’s mother as a child, who experiences this scene. Today’s entertainer, film director Ināra Kolmane, directs the filming of the episode, which is shot from inside the house.

“I have achieved this feeling that this is all I have to do right now, I do it with great pleasure and despite the fact that it is drama, also with some ease, and I have a wonderful team with a wonderful sense of humor, the selection of actors is very successful. It turns out that the main role of Astra is played by four actresses: baby, today we film Astra at the age of 12, then we film at a young age, and then in adulthood, when there is Maija Doveika, ”says the director.

Ināra Kolmane received the National Film Award “Kristaps the Great” for her previous feature film “Bille”, and her documentaries “My Husband Andrejs Sakharovs” and “Ručs un Norje” have also been awarded over the years. The shooting of the film “Mother’s Milk” started in September last year.

“I am proud to be able to go with him at some point in my life and get to know him; such people are a value, ”comments actress Maija Doveika, commenting on the collaboration with the director.

In the small childhood apartment, women of the same family of the novel “Mother’s Milk” live from the fifties to the eighties, so this week – every day in a contemporary interior – another actress played their emotional episodes.

“Sometimes as an actor, it is enough for me to look into Ināra’s eyes to read the vibration that should be hit,” reveals actress Inga Tropa.

“She is very smart. Very sensitive and in the best sense very feminine director. Happy birthday, heartfelt joy, happiness, health and much, much love! ”

The only time it is possible to receive birthday greetings on such a busy day is the moment between episodes. “Nothing could be better than working on your birthday,” emphasizes Ināra Kolmane. “When I film, I live, I feel very good and harmonious.”
