Manchester City threatened with severe sanctions for alleged violations of financial regulations. Pep Guardiola emphasized that Man City’s success could never be taken away.
Manchester City charged Premier League over 100 violations of financial regulations, also accused of not being cooperative. An investigation that has been running for four years revealed that the violations occurred over nine years, from 2009-2018.
In that period, The Citizens won three Premier League trophies with two of them under Pep Guardiola. The other was Man City’s first title, won under Roberto Mancini which involved an iconic moment from Sergio Aguero’s dramatic goal.
The three titles are now in danger of being stripped if Manchester City are really proven guilty. Other sanctions that could potentially be imposed on Man City are deducting points and relegation.
Man City manager Pep Guardiola emphasized that even if the Premier League stripped them of their titles, the club’s success could not be taken away. Because it consists of many moments that will always be remembered.
“No one can get rid of him. His feelings, the good moments, the bad moments. For sure, they are ours. Regardless of the punishment, they are ours,” he was quoted as saying BBC.
“That moment from Sergio Aguero, when Balotelli put the pass to him. I don’t know if we were responsible for Steven Gerrard’s slip.”
“In that situation at Anfield, I didn’t want it, out of respect for Steven Gerrard. But was it our fault? The Premier League will decide, but I know what we won, the way we won it, the effort we put in.”
“For something that happened in 2009 or 2010, I don’t know how long it was, things are not going to change one second,” he added.
