Kalna street 6, Bauska
From August 10 to September 11, 2022, the Bauska Museum will host an exhibition of the works of artists Dace Bluma and Aija Bāliņa “Notes of Venice”.
Opening of the exhibition and meeting with the artists on August 10 at 16:00.
“Venice. Venice is unique. It is safe to say that it is the only one like it in the world. It is great if you manage to get to know this city, but it is a special success if you manage to live there for a longer time. And if Venice “allows you to come”.
Everyone has their own story about Venice. I met Venice in 2005 and after 10 years my second meeting with Venice was like coming home. And I want to share my love for this city with others. That’s why I wrote these notes about Venice. On paper, on canvas, on wood and on porcelain. I hope that the audience will also be able to see a little bit of the magic of this city in my notes of Venice”, artist Dace Blum.
“Being on the magical island of Venice is a joy and a challenge at the same time. Most recently, in the spring of 2022, I got inspiration again in Venice – in this place rich in moods, colors and historical details. Since 2002, Venice has pleased me at least once every couple of years, going with an enthusiastic group of colleagues plein air. The artist’s view – source of inspiration – choosing and reflecting the motif. It is a creative process, which in turn is made different by the author’s chosen work technique and personality.
Artists, including me (Aija Bāliņa), balance between a more or less projected reality, getting to know the object of their interest, or manifest their special vision, sometimes moving away from the recognition of the object.
MY passion is the illusions of reflection and reflection, bringing out from the multifaceted visual qualities of Venice the special radiance of the lagoon city. The network of water and the presence of the blue-green lagoon can be felt in every corner of the city, turning into a mirror image the play of lights on the magnificent facades, the silhouettes of gondolas, the lights of lanterns, and the everyday life of colorful courtyards.
Sketches capture inspiring moments that were fleeting due to mood and lighting. My tasks as an artist are to see and capture. Frame, but don’t freeze.
This exhibition exhibits both sketches from plein airs of the last 15 years, as well as Venice-inspired collages, prints and acrylic paintings on canvas.”, artist Aija Bāliņa.
