ANTRACTORY — The full moon will be in the sky on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, night. February’s full moon, dubbed the Snow Moon, will arrive starting at 11:57 Eastern Time, or before 12 pm in western Indonesia. On the same day, Mercury will reach its furthest distance to the west of the sun, and make it bright. The morning star, Venus, will also tease the sky at mid-northern latitudes. Likewise, Mars will also enliven the beautiful night.
In New York City, the full moon will rise at 5:32 p.m. local time. If you’re there, try to get out into the air at sunset. Then you will see the sun setting along with the rising of the Snow Moon. This phenomenon cannot be felt in Indonesia.
A full moon occurs when the moon, earth, and sun are in a straight line. The time of the moon phase depends on the position of the moon, not the position of the observer or person, which means that the time of the full moon depends on a person’s time zone. That’s why when the full moon hits New York in the afternoon, it’s already midnight here.

The full moon is an easy target for binoculars or small telescopes. However, it will be a little disappointing because the moon is so bright that its surface loses contrast. That’s because there are no shadows that usually outline the features of the moon. Try observing the moon a few days before or after the full moon, the shadows will provide more detail on the moon’s surface.
