Asifa Akhtar, born in 1971, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg, was re-elected as Vice President of the Max Planck Society, Biomedical Section, at the annual conference in Göttingen. She is entering her second term as Vice President of the Biomedical Section. In her first term of office, she campaigned for more diversity and equal opportunities, the Max Planck Society announced.

Erasmus Prize 2023

Islamic scholar Sophia Hiss and psychologist Lisa Reuter have been awarded the “Erasmus Prize for the Liberal Arts and Sciences” by University College Freiburg. Sophia Hiss has studied the impact of droughts and crop failures on protests in Syria. Lisa Reuter tested a method for capturing knowledge and emotions. The Erasmus Prize honors academic work that treats its subject in an exemplary manner, including from an interdisciplinary perspective. The prize is endowed with 1500 or 3500 euros, which are donated by the Sparkasse Freiburg-Nordlicher Breisgau.
