Not your confidence, Al-Ahly.. The poor thing is not a power to decide

Al-Ahly Under Fire: Former Star Weighs in on Fan Fury and Club Concerns

Saudi Arabian soccer club Al-Ahly is facing a turbulent period, grappling with disappointing domestic performance that has ignited fan outrage. Despite strong showings in the prestigious AFC Champions League, the club finds itself lagging in the Saudi League, sitting in sixth place, and suffered an early exit from the Cup of the Two Holy Mosques.

These setbacks have fueled discontent among Al-Ahly supporters, who vocally expressed their displeasure during the team’s last match. Chants demanding the resignation of club president Khaled Al-Issa echoed through the stadium, with fans using harsh language to decry his leadership as a "failure."

Hussein Abdel-Ghani, a former Al-Ahly star, understands the passion of the club’s fanbase but urges them to reconsider their approach. “The public has the right to be angry, but not in this way. This is not the ethics of Al-Ahly fans, which I know well," Abdel-Ghani stated.

He emphasized the deep affection Al-Ahly fins have for their club, acknowledging their right to voice concerns and demands. However, Abdel-Ghani believes that replacing Khaled Al-Issa won’t necessarily solve the club’s problems.

"Khaled Al-Issa does not have full powers to make urgent decisions. The presidents of the club do not have this right in general,” Abdel-Ghani explained.

Abdel-Ghani’s perspective echoes a common sentiment in soccer: that the power dynamics within clubs are complex, often with limitations on the president’s authority. He urges fans to direct their frustration toward the club’s management, pushing for them to address the underlying issues that have led to Al-Ahly’s recent struggles.

As Al-Ahly prepares to face off against Iran’s Esteghlal Tehran in the AFC Champions League, the club’s future hangs in the balance. The outcome of the match could provide a much-needed boost of confidence for the team, but the larger issues surrounding club management and fan relations remain unresolved.
