The claim comes directly from Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan. The company stated that during the first day of sales on November 12, there were no PS5s available in Japan.

“With high enthusiasm and lots of orders from users, the PS5 unit on the day of the launch has been sold out,” said Sony, quoted from Games Radar, Sunday (8/11/2020).
PS5 heating in Japan has been enforced with a lottery system. So, the names registered due to interest in the PS5 will be raffled. Only then can the winners of the lottery order and buy a PS5.
Just like in other countries, Sony Japan also has no plans to hold sales events offline, given the impossible conditions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Consumers are only directed to buy online.
On the other hand, Sony has had big expectations with this brand-new console. President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, Jim Ryan, said that his party is confident that PS5 sales will be greater than PS4 in its first 4 months.
While on its long-term target, Sony put up a 100 million unit sales figure before the next generation of consoles appeared. Judging from its track record, Sony consoles have often exceeded this target. Only PS3 only 87.4 million units were sold.
