“Not worth the effort”: Trump rethinks corona briefings

Donald Trump has held a press conference on the corona situation every evening since mid-March – until his obscure proposals for Covid-19 therapy cause horror worldwide. The following day, the US President is unusually narrow-lipped. Now he expresses doubts about the meaning of the event.

US President Donald Trump appears to be reviewing his regular press conferences in the corona crisis. What was the point of holding press conferences in the White House when the media “asked nothing but hostile questions & then refused to tell the truth or the facts,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “They have record ratings and the American people get nothing but fake news.” That is not worth the effort.

It is unclear whether his tweet means that he no longer wants to hold press conferences on the corona crisis in the future. Trump hadn’t scheduled a briefing on Saturday, which is unusual. Since mid-March, he has held press conferences almost every day, some of which lasted longer than two hours. A few weeks ago, he was pleased that the programs were “quota hits”.

Journalists had the opportunity to ask him detailed questions – only he didn’t always answer them. Due to verbal attacks on some media representatives, controversial, sometimes false statements and much self-praise, Trump increasingly criticized his appearances.

At a press conference on Thursday, Trump encouraged researchers to look into ways to inject disinfectants directly into people fighting the virus. With this, he triggered broad outrage. On Friday, he tried to capture what he said, saying it was just “sarcasm.” He did not want to hear any questions, however, and the event was over after half an hour.
