Jakarta –
Vice President of the United States (US) Kamala Harris did not stop by Indonesia during his visit to Southeast Asia this week. Wapres AS Kamala Harris who only visited Singapore and Vietnam were judged to have forgotten a number of things.
Padjadjaran University (Unpad) international relations expert, Teuku Rezasyah said that Kamala Harris’s absence to Indonesia had forgotten that Indonesia was the largest country in Southeast Asia.
“Kamala Harris has forgotten that whatever decisions she will make in Singapore and Vietnam, it will only be effective if it is understood in depth by Indonesia, which is the largest and most populous country in Southeast Asia,” Rezasyah told reporters on Tuesday (24/8). 2021).
Rezasyah also highlighted the relationship building by Kamala Harris. In fact, the arrival of Kamala Harris in Indonesia, even if only for a few hours, will attract US business actors to Indonesia.
“Kamala Harris does not yet understand the importance of symbolism in dealing with Indonesia. Where kinship at a personal level is continuously built, it will facilitate joint decision-making in the future,” said Rezasyah.
“Kamala Harris ignores the momentum. The transit which is only a few hours at any airport she chooses in Indonesia has the potential to attract entrepreneurs from the United States to get to know Indonesia’s economic potential,” he continued.
Rezasyah also assessed that Kamala Harris believed that Indonesia had been very consistent with the principle of being free and active. So, even though it seems close to the PRC, it remains independent in responding to developments in the Indo-Pacific.
“Kamala Haris is not aware. Any brief meeting with Indonesian leaders has the potential to increase the authority of the Indonesian government at home and abroad,” he said.
In addition, according to Rezasyah, Kamala Harris has forgotten the legacy of former US President Barack Obama, who has visited Indonesia twice. Obama visited Indonesia in 2010 and 2017.
