JAKARTA – Recent studies show not wearing a mask is the main cause Covid-19 spread out in the gym or gym. These findings come from two reports recently released from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
This study analyzes cases of the spread of Covid-19 that have occurred at sports facilities in Chicago and Honolulu. In Chicago, 60 percent of people who took fitness classes from August 24 to September 1 tested positive for Covid-19. Despite implementing temperature and symptom checks before entering the gym, people are allowed to remove masks during exercise.
In Honolulu, 21 cases were linked to a fitness instructor who tested positive for Covid-19 on July 1. Meanwhile, two days before symptoms developed, the instructor led a yoga class for 27 people wearing masks and none of them were infected with Covid-19.
Hours before symptoms appeared, the same instructor led a stationary bicycle class of 10 people. No one wears a mask in this class. All participants also tested positive for Covid-19. “Increased respiratory activity that occurs in confined spaces in indoor sports facilities causes transmission,” the report said.
The CDC then suggested that the gym can reduce the content of people who exercise in the class so that they can maintain a distance of about 1.5-2 meters. The CDC also recommends using masks to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus. Gyms should also increase ventilation to allow air exchange. (E-4)
