Referendum: First thoughts from government leaders
Preliminary final result: 52.6 percent voted against the transfer solution, 47.4 percent in favor
Salzburger Landeskorrespondenz, November 10, 2024
(LK) After the no-vote in the referendum on the transfer solution that took place today in Flachgau, Tennengau and the city of Salzburg, the leaders of the state government took an immediate position at a press conference.
LH Wilfried Haslauer: “The result is clear. It can be clearly stated that this project will not be implemented in the future. Now it’s time to find other solutions. But it is a good day for democracy, because about 40 percent participation in a relatively high issue. I would like to thank everyone who participated and everyone who voted.”
With a turnout of 38 percent, according to preliminary results (still excluding postal votes from the city of Salzburg), a total of 52.6 percent in the three regions were against the transit solution and 47.4 percent voted for it.
Haslauer: “Look for other solutions.”
State Governor Wilfried Haslauer confirmed: “The result is clear. It can be clearly stated that this project will not be implemented in the future. Now it’s time to find other solutions. But it is a good day for democracy, because around 40 percent participation on a factual issue is relatively high. I would like to thank everyone who participated and everyone who voted.”
Svazek: “The result hurts. “
Deputy State Governor Marlene Svazek: “The last few weeks have shown that supporters and opponents have put in the work. Valuable knowledge, but the result also hurts me personally, even if it is appropriate. I take it that Flachgau especially expects a solution. It is up to Mayor Bernhard Auinger to present Plan B.”
Schnöll: “The result is binding.”
Deputy Governor of the State Stefan Schnöll in the first response to the “no” vote in the referendum on the transfer solution: “We said before that the result is binding, and it is. I would like a different result. What is amazing is that the communities on the local railway were for that. I would like to thank everyone, supporters and opponents. Now we will sit down with the city and look for a solution. “
