Paul follows Luuk, Emelie, Tibbe, Myrthe and Quentin in his brand new program. They all have one thing in common: they are seriously ill. For example, 10-year-old Emelie has only just been told that she has a brain tumour. However, she does not want to think about death. Together with her twin sister, she only wants to focus on the positive things. “We’re going to laugh about even arguing.”
10-year-old Quentin is also in the middle of his heavy chemotherapy process. When Paul visits him in the hospital, it turns out that the treatment is so intense that he cannot even speak to him. A few days later, Quentin manages to tell his story in front of the camera. “I woke up fine. I’m feeling good. I am lonely. Mothers is gone. My parents are divorced. I have cancer. Life really couldn’t get any better. I’m really at my peak,” he says a little sarcastically.
In addition to their illness, all children have something in common: they are – despite their fear – extremely positive about it. This brings tears to the viewers. “Young children who have cancer, but are fighting through it,” someone writes on Twitter. ‘God damn those kids… what heroes!’ This person also calls the children ‘brave’: ‘But life is sometimes f*cking unfair.’
Viewers are also impressed by Paul de Leeuw. According to them, he is the perfect presenter for this moving program. ‘Paul is doing this well.’ Someone else writes: ‘Beautiful program by Paul de Leeuw.’ According to this viewer, the children certainly live up to the name of the program: ‘They are certainly not small! Toppers!’
