Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – A military expert who is also a former spokesman for the United States Department of State (US), Dr John Callahan, said there was the potential for a third world war to arise from a war between China and Russia. He even said the war could involve nuclear.
To the British media, Express, Callahan said that in its history there is a Russian region that China really wants to control, namely Siberia. This is because Siberia has abundant natural resources and was previously under the control of the Qing Dynasty.
According to Callahan, if China does launch an attack on Russia, Moscow will not hesitate to fire its nuclear weapons.

“I don’t think Russia will stand a chance against China without using nuclear weapons. Especially in the area where they will be fighting, namely Siberia. Russia has very limited capabilities,” said the expert who is currently dean at New England College in the US. Tuesday (12/7/2022).
In historical records, the conflict between China and the Soviet Union regarding Siberia itself had occurred in 1969. The conflict occurred between China’s Xinjiang Province and the Siberian region which is currently controlled by Kazakhstan.
Callahan added that given the current situation where Russia is battling Ukraine, China could easily re-enter Siberian territory. The reason is, the distance between Ukraine and Siberia is very far so that logistical mobilization will not be easy.
“Let’s say China is invading Siberia now. There is a high probability that Russia will just turn the key and launch a nuke,” he added.
“Because they had to completely disengage from Ukraine, and somehow, on their pathetic creaking logistics system, got their troops around the world to fight China.”

Currently, relations between Beijing and Moscow are still well established. The two continue to have trade relations even though Russia is currently under Western sanctions.
Even so, China has never clearly supported Russia’s action against Ukraine. So far, the country led by President Xi Jinping has only voiced its opposition to the economic sanctions imposed by Western countries on Moscow.
