Not only the Scudetto, Napoli also wants to chase the Champions League

Jakarta

Napoli running alone in the hunt for the Serie A title. Faced with a huge opportunity to clinch Scudetto, Neapolitans chose to gamble on the pursuit of a double title.

Napoli continued its positive trend in Serie A, after silencing Spezia 3-0 at the Stadio Alberto Picco, Sunday (5/2/2023) evening WIB. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s opener was followed by two goals from Victor Osimhen.

It was Napoli’s 18th win of the season out of 21 matches, with the other two matches ending in draws and only one loss. Now foster children Luciano Spalletti collected 56 points at the top of the standings, while 16 points away from Inter Milan and AS Roma in 2-3 positions.

With the consistency of winning points and the advantages they currently have, Napoli has strengthened its position as a potential champion. Barring an extraordinary collapse, they are expected to be difficult to catch for the rest of the season.

Winning Serie A this season means ending the championship drought since 1990. However, this possibility does not make Napoli close itself from opportunities elsewhere.

Spalletti emphasized that his team will also pursue the chance to win the Champions League. In that tournament, Napoli will face Eintracht Frankfurt in the round of 16.

“There are moments in life when you achieve results, then you can stay with what you have or ask for more. We have no doubts about that,” said Spalletti after leading his team to beat Spezia.

“We have decided to gamble and go for the double, to take the initiative in every game and try to achieve something for the love of these supporters who all prayed for us today.”

“We must be proud of the love the Napoli people have for us and translate that onto the pitch,” he added Sky Sport Italia quoted Football Italia.
