After a quiet holiday weekend, on Wednesday, a large number of fire brigades rushed to put out a fire in Kunkiai, Kretingale district, where a straw stack was on fire, a car was destroyed, but a residential house and an outbuilding were saved.
When a wooden gazebo covered with polycarbonate caught fire in Kunkiai on a windy day, sparks flew a hundred meters away and caught fire in a haystack belonging to the stud farm, in which 300 bales were stacked. A farmer helped to extinguish them by spreading them with a tractor. The straw burned.
A car parked 3 meters away caught fire due to the heat, which collapsed, the side of the other one was overheated. The gazebo and its contents burned down. The area where the fire broke out built with firewood, sheds, covered with garbage, waste, old abandoned barracks. The wind was blowing in the direction of the residential house – firefighters were protecting it and the outbuilding from catching fire. The fire extinguishing work was led by the coordinator. The extinguishing lasted several hours. It was made easier by the fact that there were several bodies of water nearby.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
