Not only girls in jazz! “Auziņš, Chudars & Arutyunyan Trio” releases the album “Tutti Off Duty”

At the moment, we have already forgotten about that virus, but the moment when the whole world order is distorted gives you the opportunity to review your values and what you want to do. When people around me get sick or die, I need to understand what I should do. Should I just work, should I accept offers to perform and what projects should I do, or should I do something that I believe in completely. Therefore, this time allowed to reassess and reorganize these things.

Please tell me what the “unconventional techniques” mentioned in the album description mean!

For example, the saxophonist Kārlis Auzāns here and there plays something like multiphonics – this means that several notes sound from one saxophone at the same time. I play guitar here and there with a violin bow, for example in the composition “Steppenwolf”. I also put this between the strings to change the sound. It is not unconventional [mūzikas] language, but quite a lot of effects pedals and looping options are used – when I play some part and he goes to the circle and we build the music around him.

How did your cooperation with the Skani record company come about?

The recording company “Skani” releases classical music recordings. Last year, on February 25, she released our classical music album, where composer Krists Auznieks wrote the music for us. It was a piece about 45 minutes long. We realized that working with “Skani” is very cool and we are continuing it now. That “Sounds” is the first recording of jazz music. I wish them success in the future!

Do you have any inklings about the possible concerts of your trio?

There have been a lot of concerts so far, but since I live in America right now, concerts can’t happen. It is possible that we will do something in June when I am back in Latvia.
