Lu Qi and his colleagues report their findings in a paper published online in one of the journals of the American Heart Association.

The researchers analyzed data from two large studies of adults for at least 20 years.

They found that people with blood type AB had a 23 percent increased risk of heart disease.

In addition, those with type B had an 11 percent increased risk and those with type A had a 5 percent increased risk, compared to people with type O.
