LERKENDAL (Dagbladet): Åge Hareide has left behind his first short week as Rosenborg coach. A comeback that was painful wished by the main character himself.
There was never any doubt that Hareide was Rosenborg’s first choice when the club parted ways with Eirik Horneland earlier this summer. Just over two months later, Ivar Koteng and the rest of the Rosenborg board’s dream coach are in place.
– It is always good that you get the one you want, that’s how it is in everything, in both football and love. Of course it’s fine. We are happy about it, so it feels very good, says sports manager Mikael Dorsin to Dagbladet.
You do not fuck with Åge!
Incredible victory rows
That Hareide was a dream for the tall gentlemen at Lerkendal is easy to understand. A quick look at the results of hareidtølen in recent years is all you need:
As a Danish national team coach, Hareide has played 34 games without a loss. In total, he ended up with 42 matches as Danish national team manager, only three ended in losses, all in his first year with the neighbors in the south.
When Hareide brings his Rosenborg team to Drammen this weekend, it has been almost four years since Åge Hareide last lost a football match.
– I do not think I will spend so much time on it. It’s history. There can quickly be a loss in the first game, you never know in football. I think you have to put that away and work to start a new series and then we will see how skilled we are, Hareide says to Dagbladet about the wild statistics.
Åge Hareide is the new Rosenborg coach: – Best that could have happened
When asked if he remembers the last time he lost a match, Hareide bursts out laughing.
– I do. I remember many losses I. It was against Montenegro in the Park in 2016, so I remember that, says a laughing Rosenborg coach.
Admittedly, Denmark lost a training match against Slovakia last year. But that match did not lead the Hareide team as his national team squad was in conflict with its own league and the strike. Therefore, that match is not counted in the statistics. Nor does the World Cup exit against Croatia, since in the official figures it is counted as a draw.
Impressed the players
34 games without a loss, two championship finals and a sea of experience are just some of the things Hareide brings to the job of bringing Rosenborg back to the top.
It gives players optimism and faith in a bright future.
– It’s good to get started. I think everyone is excited and looking forward to getting wind in the sails again, says goalkeeper André Hansen to Dagbladet.
Already after only one training session with Hareide, Pål André Helland was impressed.
– He is very clear on how he wants it. Fantastic charisma, authority and it shines through that he is very good. He has the players’ ears to put it that way, so we look forward to getting it out on the field when we get hold of it over time, Helland tells Dagbladet.
Has kicked RBK behind
Secretive
The saga of Hareide and Rosenborg lasted all summer before the employment was finally ready in mid-August. In other words, the former Norwegian and Danish national team manager has had plenty of time to prepare for the new job.
But Hareide does not want to reveal the aces he has up his sleeve.
– I do not want to say very much about what it is because then you just want to ruin it, says the newly hired RBK coach wisely and reveals little:
– Just start working and teasing about the things you yourself think are important. And it may be that other coaches think other things are important, he continues and emphasizes that Rosenborg has been good defensively this year.
Trøndelag travel to Drammen to meet Strømsgodset in Hareide’s first match on Sunday.
