Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Russia is the first country to register the Covid-19 vaccine, legally in the country. Even though it only entered phase III testing yesterday, the vaccine called Sputnik V, called Russian President Vladimir Putin, is safe and effective.
This is a big question, how the vaccine has entered the stage III test, where previously there was no data on the vaccine.
“Russia is unusual, transparency. There is also no data from them Russia. For example, using the Russian vaccine to Indonesia, this is a conspiracy because they are not open,” said Independent Consultant of Molecular Genetics with Postdoctoral from Harvard Medical School, Dr. Ahmad Rusdan Handoyo Utomo during the webinar. “Covid-19 and Vaccine Prospects for Indonesia” in Jakarta, Friday (14/8/2020).
Furthermore, the Senior Manager for Research and Development Integration of PT Bio Farma, Dr. Neni Nurainy also said that it was impossible for phase 3 to be carried out immediately, before passing through phase 1.
“It is impossible for phase 1 to go straight to 3. Russian vaccines are still in the spotlight. This is the country’s own policy. It does not follow the general rules of vaccine registration,” he said.
The same thing was also expressed by the Manager of Biomolecular Research at the Australian National University and the Managing Director of Lipotek Australia, Dr. Ines Atmosukarto who said that as a researcher, vaccines must pass various kinds of research principles.
“Especially in maintaining the safety of people. Especially because the vaccine is given to healthy people. Vaccines are to prevent it, it is very dangerous if we are in the traces looking for a vaccine suddenly allowing drastic cuts. Because we know why there are clinical trials, there are 3 stages to protect the community, “he said.
Previously, this Russian-made vaccine was reportedly ready for distribution to the public in November 2020. Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), said he would produce 500 million doses of the corona virus vaccine.
“Russia, together with foreign partners, is ready to produce more than 500 million doses of vaccine per year in five countries and the plan is to increase production capacity even higher,” he said.
Although its efficacy is doubtful, Russia claims to have developed a Covid-19 vaccine for the past six years. Kirill admitted that in recent years the country has focused on developing vaccines for Ebola and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).
