Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Prabowo Subianto attended the first session of the G20 high-level conference (Gathering) in Brazil, Monday (18/11/2024). In his speech he expressed Indonesia’s plan to be self-sufficient in food within 4 years.
In this first session, the topic was poverty and hunger. He also appreciated the steps taken by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to make this issue the main focus of the G20 Summit.
“We are hopeful that we can solve the problem of hunger in Indonesia. I plan to overcome food shortages within 3 years, we will be independent in 4 years, and in 5 years we are sure we can contribute to the global alliance against poverty and hunger,” Prabowo said in his speech.
Prabowo said that Indonesia has the fourth largest population in the world so the problems of hunger and poverty are real issues in everyday life.
From his records, at least the percentage of people below the poverty line is still high, in addition, 25% of children in Indonesia are still experiencing hunger.
So he made his government’s fight against hunger and poverty a national priority. Of course, he also gave a huge budget to the education department.
“I believe that education will take us out of poverty. The free food program for children is also part of our strategy to ensure that the younger generation receives the benefits of education,” he said.
At that time, Prabowo also emphasized that global economic issues cannot be separated from global dynamics. He called for a peaceful solution to ongoing conflicts, such as in Ukraine and Palestine.
“We urge an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and Gaza. Only with peace and stability can we overcome poverty and hunger,” said Prabowo.
